EVENTS
The signature event of Special Education Foundation is our springtime Commitment to Kids banquet. Our other events constitute our main fund-raising avenue. Whether it's the banquet, the golf tournament or a party, it's sure to be a joyous occasion.

Banquet to recognize the achievements of students with disabilities. The communications department of Special School District organizes the event that is the keystone of the collaboration between the Foundation, the District and the corporate community. Executives from sponsoring corporations are honored to present Foundation scholarships and cheer the accomplishments of the Zander Self Esteem Award winners. Outstanding volunteers and corporate partners are recognized with Beyond the Classroom awards. In 2008, the first James S. McClellan, Jr. Distinguished Service Award. was presented to its namesake to recognize his long-term commitment and dedication to the Foundation and the students it serves. The award will be conferred on a discretionary basis rather than annually. The 2008 banquet was held Thursday evening, April 24, 2008. For more information, call (314) 567-8100.

I will try to give back just a little of what I know to the youger boys. There is one boy in the troop with learning disabilities. I really hope to show him that, with hard work, both in school and in Scouts, a love of nature, and friendships in Scouts, you can do anything.
Special Education Foundation scholars excel in academics, community service and the arts and/or athletics. The scholarship committee looks for evidence of the likelihood of success in post-secondary education and considers the obstacles that students overcome as well as financial need. Scholarships are generally in the range of $1,200.00 to $3,500.00. The deadline for applications is February 13, 2009.

The Rosemary Zander Award was established by the Special Education Foundation in 1987. The award remembers Rosemary Zander, a Special School District teacher who devoted her entire career to building student self esteem.
