Heroes With Heart
The Special Education Foundation hosts Heroes with Heart, an event that honors an individual whose contributions to the mission of the Foundation deserve high praise and special recognition. The selected “Hero” is one who has demonstrated longstanding commitment, outstanding leadership and tireless efforts on behalf of the children we serve. The 2014 event was held on Thursday, February 6, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bogey Club in Ladue. The 2014 Heroes with Heart honoree is Debbie Bentele.

Debbie's involvement with the Special Education Foundation began in 1997. She co-chaired the organization's first fundraiser in a joint effort with the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals. Her devotion to ensuring success of children with disabilities continued for several years through volunteer work and media projects. In 2003, Debbie joined the Special Education Foundation Board of Directors.
Debbie plays a key role in the Foundation's leadership. She outlined the plan for the first annual Dan McLaughlin Golf Tournament. She took the lead in developing the organization's initial video production in 2003. She chaired the nomination committee and participated in the program committee and golf committee.
Debbie chairs the SEF Women Leaders, a group of women committed to increased awareness of the Foundation's mission through fundraising and assistance with programs and schools within the Special School District. This three-year enterprise involves Debbie's direction and implementation of the Foundation's successful annual Boutique Fashion Show and Luncheon.
Debbie's energetic and unwavering assistance to children with disabilities and her outstanding philanthropic endeavors on their behalf reflect the Foundation's giving spirit and it commitment to student success. It is with great pride that the Special Education Foundation honors Debbie Bentele as its 2014 Hero with Heart.
