HEROES WITH HEART HONORS DAVID M.DIENER

1/17/2008

Special Education Foundation Hosts Benefit to Applaud Individual’s Contributions

The Bogey Club provides the elegant setting for the Special Education Foundation’s annual Heroes with Heart event that honors David M. Diener on Saturday, February 23. Diener will be recognized for his numerous contributions to children with disabilities and for his significant impact on their success. The event, to be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., includes cocktails, appetizer buffets and a special recognition program. Proceeds will benefit the Special Education Foundation.

“The Special Education Foundation is so thrilled to sponsor this event that applauds David Diener. His contributions to our organization have made a significant and lasting impact on countless children with special needs,” states Debbie Bentele, chair of Heroes with Heart and Foundation Board Member. “We feel honored to be a part this celebration that recognizes the contributions and ‘heart’ of a very deserving individual. We look forward to a fabulous evening of celebration while at the same time helping a lot of children.”

In keeping with the Heroes theme, the highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Heroes with Heart award. The award will be presented by Peter Kachris, Ph.D., former Superintendent of Special School District and the first recipient of the Heroes recognition. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle and applaud Diener’s accomplishments and contributions.

“The Foundation board looks forward to hosting this event to pay tribute to one who has given so much to help children with special needs.” says Gene McNary, Board President. “David is a very worthy recipient of the Heroes with Heart award. We are proud of David and proud to be associated with him.”

Diener, who serves as Vice President of U.S. Bank Private Client Group, has been a member of the Special Education Board of Directors for the past five years. During that time, he has made a significant impact in helping teachers develop innovative classroom projects that play a major role in ensuring student success. One such endeavor resulted in an invitation to the White House for teachers to be recognized in the Rose Garden for their successful initiatives that greatly enhanced reading levels for children with special needs.

The Special Education Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to assist students with disabilities to achieve success in their efforts beyond the classroom. The Foundation does this through scholarships, summer camps, mini-grants, specialized equipment such as hearing aids and eyeglasses, leadership programs, parent support groups and recognition for student achievement. The Foundation depends solely on private donations for support and receives no money from government sources, the United Way or the Special School District.
