DAN MCLAUGHLIN TO HOST CHARITY EVENT
9/20/2004
Golf Tournament to benefit Special Education Foundation
The second annual Dan McLaughlin Golf Tournament to benefit the Special Education Foundation will be held on Monday, October 11 at Norwood Hills Country Club. The event, that begins at 10:00 a.m. with registration and brunch, benefits children and youth with disabilities.
Dan McLaughlin was first introduced to the efforts of the Special Education Foundation through his friendship with Caroline Kijowski, a six-year old child who receives services from the Special School District. Touched by Caroline and her family, Dan searched for an avenue to assist other children with disabilities. His short-lived search ended with the Special Education Foundation.
“Dan’s involvement and his willingness to involve numerous area athletes promise to make this event a huge success,” said Gene McNary, President of the Special Education Foundation. “This partnership enhances and expands our ability to help children with disabilities achieve success.”
The Special Education Foundation golf tournament is a four-person scramble. The $250 golf package includes green fees, golf cart, door prizes, numerous gifts, lunch, cocktails and dinner and a benefit auction for players and guests. Those attending will have the opportunity to mingle with area athletes and celebrities and take-part in contests and raffles. David Neiers, Foundation Board Member and partner with Helfrey, Simon & Jones, P.C. co- chairs the event with Bob Kijowski, sales manager with Fox Sports Net.
“The oral auction items are some of the best I’ve seen,” said Dan McLaughlin, Honorary Chair. “I certainly intend to bid on these items.” Such items include: Cardinal Spring Training Package, Cardinal game tickets and hotel; Southwest Airlines Vacation Package for two; a week at a Door County Condo in summer 2005; St. Louis Cardinal Box for 12: St. Louis Fox Sports Net Box for 12; an Albert Pujols Autographed Cardinal Jersey; a celebrity chef to prepare a meal in your home for 10; and several dinners for eight at local restaurants. Other exciting items also will be auctioned.
The Special Education Foundation was established in 1984 to provide assistance for children in areas not supported by tax dollars. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to assist children with disabilities achieve success in their endeavors beyond the classroom.
