PROGRAMS
Our programs are designed to enhance student success in many ways: by building self-esteem, by developing leadership; by rewarding achievement; by giving teachers the tools to implement innovative approaches; and by fostering parenting skills.

The Fred Saigh Leadership Program, beginning in fall 2004, broadens student horizons beyond the classroom through new and unique community-related opportunities.

The "heart" of the program is the High School/Youth component that places 20 to 30 youth in a year of leadership training. The curriculum introduces, fosters and develops leadership skills through involving students in issues that face the community. At the completion of the program, the students are better prepared to return to their respective schools equipped to campaign for school offices, manage school projects and assume leadership positions.

Thank you for the opportunity to be in this great Leadership Program. I had a great time throwing out the first pitch! I cannot wait to see what other great things we will be doing this year. -Zach Zerman.
The 20 to 30 selected students take one day every other month to visit and explore key sites/locations and meet leaders throughout the metropolitan area. The program exposes the students to the institutions that make our community vital and effective in meeting the needs of its citizens. Examples include a visit to the St. Louis County Executive's Office, the St. Louis Mayor's Office, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis County Police Department, and the State Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri. During the months when site visits do not take place, students must work with their teachers on an activity.

The deadline for these program applications is April 26, 2010.

The award represents the tireless efforts of Sign of the Arrow volunteers that result in a substantial philanthropic commitment to the St. Louis community.
