Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom

As students with disabilities transition out of the Special School District (SSD), the need for essential tools doesn’t end when the classroom door closes. The Special Education Foundation is accepting application requests through our Adaptive & Assistive Equipment program for students who are aging out of SSD—helping ensure that learning, communication, and independence continue uninterrupted.

Filling in gaps in perception and communication is at the heart of this work. Communication devices, hearing aids, vision supports, and adaptive technology play a critical role in helping students navigate daily life, pursue employment, and maintain connections once they leave the school setting.

What Equipment Can Be Funded?

The Special Education Foundation considers funding requests on an ongoing basis for specialized equipment that enhances education, independence, and quality of life. Supported items include:

  • Augmentative communication devices
  • Adaptive equipment
  • Technology items
  • Audiology devices and eyeglasses

Support During the Transition Out of SSD

Through a generous grant from The Tilles Foundation, the Special Education Foundation can provide specialized equipment to students up to 21 years of age.

Financial need is a key factor in the decision process. Applications may be submitted at any time and must be initiated by an SSD professional. Families are encouraged to contact their SSD teacher for guidance and support.

Together, we’re helping students move forward with the tools they need—beyond the classroom and into their next chapter.
