Empowering Innovative Teachers to Create Meaningful Student Engagement

The Special Education Foundation is now accepting applications for Classroom Innovation Grants for the 2026–2027 school year, open now through February 28, 2026. This program exists for one simple reason: the best ideas for supporting students with disabilities come directly from the educators who know them best.

Did You Know?

Across Missouri, special education teachers consistently spend more out of pocket on classroom supplies and adaptive learning tools than the national average. From sensory materials to life-skills resources, many of the most impactful learning experiences fall outside what regulated tax dollars can cover. Yet teachers step up—again and again—because their students deserve more than the bare minimum.

Since 2002, the Special Education Foundation has helped bridge this gap.

Tracy Kroenlein of Lindbergh's Early Childhood Center implements her Classroom Innovation Grant as an interactive experience, focusing on exploring and tasting a variety of fresh fruits in four of her classrooms.

Tony Beers of Northview High School uses his Classroom Innovation Grant to bring creativity into the classroom. He helps students program Sphero "Thanksgiving" robots to use for a parade.

Stephanie Borgmann and Carrie Martin of Rogers Middle School in the Affton School District used their Classroom Innovation Grant to create a sensory space for students who greatly benefit from sensory input and for deregulation.

These grants bring innovative ideas to life—real experiences such as hands-on cooking lessons that build upon independence, interactive projects that strengthen communication skills, and creative tools that help students engage in ways that work best for them.

The impact doesn’t stop at one classroom. Grant-funded projects often become models that can be replicated in other schools and settings, multiplying their reach and long-term value. Apply today and turn innovative ideas into meaningful learning experiences for students with disabilities.
