We are continually inspired by the incredible potential of the students we serve—and we are excited to share that we are actively looking for the next generation of leaders to join the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy and NEW Pilot Program, the Junior Leaders Academy.
Last Friday was a powerful example of what this program makes possible. The students spent the morning exploring the St. Louis Aquarium, where curiosity, confidence, and teamwork were on full display. From there, they visited Energizer Park, stepping into a professional environment that sparked meaningful conversations about leadership, careers, and community pride. The day wrapped up with a creative and fun afternoon as students worked together on food truck design concepts, blending innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving in a truly hands-on way.
Moments like these are at the heart of the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy.
Launched in the fall of 2004, the Academy is a transformative, year-long program designed to broaden the horizons of high school students with disabilities by offering experiences that extend far beyond the traditional classroom. Each year, up to 20 students are selected to participate in a curriculum focused on building confidence, leadership skills, and real-world understanding.
We are also excited to build on more than a decade of success with the Leadership Academy by extending this work to younger students and piloting the Junior Leaders Academy. This new initiative is designed specifically for middle school students with disabilities and will include three interactive sessions during the 2026–2027 school year.
Middle school is a pivotal time for self-discovery and growth, and by reaching students earlier, the Junior Leaders Academy will help them build confidence, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, navigate academic and social challenges, and begin developing a strong sense of belonging and leadership in their communities.
If you know a student—middle or high school—who shows curiosity, determination, or a desire to grow, we invite you to help us identify future participants. With the right opportunities and support, these students continue to show us that their potential is limitless. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2026.
