The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is proud to recognize an outstanding group of students as the 2026 scholarship recipients. These scholarships celebrate perseverance, leadership, and academic achievement among students served by the Special School District of St. Louis County. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, these awards help students continue their education and pursue their future goals.

John Cary Scholarship – Presented by Emerson

The Special Education Foundation established the John Cary Scholarship in 2016. Named in honor of the late John Cary, former superintendent of the Special School District of St. Louis County, the scholarship recognizes his unwavering commitment to excellence and his tireless advocacy for students with disabilities.

This $5,000 scholarship, presented by Emerson, supports students who demonstrate determination and a commitment to continuing their education.

Jane Vickrey Leadership Scholarship

Established in 2025, the Jane Vickrey Leadership Scholarship honors the memory of Jane Vickrey, who believed deeply in the importance of giving back to the community. After retiring, Jane served as Secretary on the Special Education Foundation’s Board of Directors and was the Board liaison to the Fred Saigh Leadership Program, where she participated in monthly leadership activities with students.

This $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy and demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to service.

2026 Recipient - Deshon (DJ) Burks, Clayton High School – attending St. Louis Community College

Christopher Davis Scholarship

The Christopher Davis Scholarship, generously provided by the Ronald Davis family, awards $2,500 to a deserving student from the Ritenour School District. Established in 2005, the scholarship honors the memory of Christopher Davis, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in 1993.

A proud Ritenour alumnus, Christopher’s legacy lives on through this scholarship, which helps students from his former district pursue their academic dreams and continue their educational journeys.
