Each year, the Special Education Foundation (SEF) and Special School District (SSD) come together to celebrate academic achievements at the Inspiring Futures event. This event honors perseverance, growth, and the bright possibilities ahead for students with disabilities. This meaningful evening brings together students, families, educators, and supporters to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients and reaffirm SEF’s commitment to helping students pursue their dreams beyond high school.
At SEF, we understand that the transition to post-secondary education—whether that’s college, vocational training, or specialized programs—can present unique challenges. That’s why we are proud to provide scholarships that not only ease the financial burden but also empower students to take confident steps toward independence, meaningful careers, and fulfilling lives.
Among the scholarships awarded is the John Cary Scholarship, established in honor of the late superintendent of the Special School District of St. Louis County. This prestigious award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to excellence and a strong desire to continue their education. John Cary’s legacy lives on through each recipient who carries forward his belief in the limitless potential of every student.
The Christopher Davis Scholarship celebrates a student from Ritenour High School who has overcome challenges with courage and determination. Named in memory of Christopher Davis, this scholarship honors his legacy to help students reach their goals. Established in 2025, the Jane Vickrey Leadership Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Jane Vickrey by recognizing students who exemplify leadership, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference in others' lives. This scholarship highlights the importance of character and service as students prepare for their next chapter. As we honor this year’s recipients on Thursday, April 23rd, we look ahead with excitement, knowing that their futures are filled with promise. |
