For many families, summer camp is a place where children make friends, build confidence, discover new interests, and create lifelong memories. For families of students with disabilities, camp can also provide opportunities for growth, independence, and inclusion in an environment designed to meet their unique needs.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Special Education Foundation provided camp tuition assistance to 30 students served by the Special School District of St. Louis County this year through our Kid-to-Camp Program.
For many of these families, the cost of specialized camps can be a significant financial challenge. As tuition costs continue to rise, financial assistance is more important than ever. Your support helps ensure that students can participate in enriching summer experiences that strengthen social skills, foster independence, encourage physical activity, and help prevent learning loss during school breaks.
The impact extends beyond the camper. For working parents and caregivers, access to a quality camp provides peace of mind, knowing their child is in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment while they are at work. It eases financial pressures and allows families to maintain employment while their children continue learning, growing, and having fun.
Our Kid-to-Camp Program also supports students during other academic breaks throughout the school year, providing opportunities for continued engagement when school is not in session.
None of this would be possible without our incredible donors. Every scholarship awarded represents a child who gets to experience camp, a family that receives much-needed support, and a community that believes every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and belong.
As we look ahead to next summer and the upcoming school year, the need continues to grow. Your generosity can help ensure that even more students have access to these life-changing experiences.
If you'd like to help send a student to camp or support programming during school breaks, please consider making a gift today.
Together, we can continue opening doors to opportunity—one camper at a time.
