The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is now accepting applications for several programs designed to help students with disabilities succeed in school, at home, and in their communities. From emergency assistance and adaptive equipment to leadership development, scholarships, and classroom grants, SEF provides resources that help remove barriers and create opportunities for students served by the Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD).

Available Programs
Student Aid Funds for Emergencies (S.A.F.E.)
Applications are accepted year-round to provide immediate assistance for unexpected student needs, helping ensure financial hardships don't stand in the way of a student's success.
Adaptive & Assistive Equipment
Through generous support from the Tilles Foundation, SEF helps purchase communication devices, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology that foster independence and improve the quality of life for SSD students.
Applications are accepted year-round for this innovative partnership with iSocial, which provides remote group therapy focused on building social, communication, and life skills for students with autism.
Applications are now open for Winter Break camps. These programs help students maintain social connections, build confidence, and continue learning during extended school breaks.
Applications for the 2027–2028 school year are open now and are due February 26, 2027. These grants empower educators to bring creative, engaging projects into their classrooms that enhance student learning.
Students interested in expanding their leadership skills and community involvement are encouraged to apply for the 2027–2028 academy. Applications are due March 26, 2027.
Applications for the John Cary Scholarship, Jane Vickrey Leadership Scholarship, and Christopher Davis Scholarship are open through January 15, 2027. These scholarships recognize students who demonstrate resilience, leadership, determination, and a commitment to achieving their educational goals.
