Happy back-to-school season! You can almost feel the excitement in the air—new supplies, crisp shoes, and the buzz of students and teachers preparing for another year of learning. At the Special Education Foundation, this time of year is especially meaningful as we partner with educators and staff of the Special School District to provide students with disabilities the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Back-to-school isn’t just about getting ready for the classroom—it’s also a wonderful time to give back. Here are a few ways you can make a difference in the lives of students and teachers this school year:
Share Extra Supplies
When shopping for school supplies, consider picking up a few extra items to donate. Many families face financial challenges, and even simple supplies can make a meaningful difference for students with disabilities. Your generosity can also help educators who often purchase classroom essentials with their own money.
Support a Teacher
Educators in the Special School District go above and beyond every day. A small gesture—like a note of appreciation, a classroom donation, or volunteering your time—can remind teachers how valued they are in their important work.
Try Your Luck with the SEF Scratch-Off Raffle
Looking for a fun way to support students with disabilities? Enter SEF’s Missouri Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket Raffle for your chance to win a bundle of 100 Missouri Lottery Scratch-Off Tickets!
Tickets are just $5 each or 3 for $10, and every purchase helps support SEF programs benefiting students, families, and educators throughout the Special School District community. The raffle deadline is 11:59 p.m. Monday, October 12, with the winner announced on SEF’s website on Tuesday, October 13.
Make a Difference Through Payroll Deduction
Special School District employees can support SEF throughout the school year through the Payroll Deduction Program.
Choose a one-time contribution or spread your gift across multiple paychecks. Even a small amount each pay period can add up to meaningful support for students and educators.
It’s an easy way for SSD staff to invest in the programs that directly benefit their school community.
Show Gratitude
A handwritten thank-you note to a teacher, aide, or staff member goes a long way. Recognizing their commitment encourages them and helps build a supportive school environment for students.
Provide Classroom Essentials
Snacks, tissues, wipes, and other classroom basics are always in demand. Providing these everyday essentials allows educators to focus their time and resources on what matters most: supporting students in their learning and development.
As we begin a new school year, SEF invites you to find a way to give back—whether through a donation, a raffle ticket, payroll deduction, volunteering, or simply showing appreciation to an educator.
Your support helps SEF provide resources and programs that make a meaningful difference for students with disabilities across the Special School District community.
