Applications for winter break camps are being accepted in SEF’s Kid-to-Camp program. Attending camp gives students with disabilities opportunities to experience the joy, friendship, and growth that come from attending camp. Whether they’re building friendships, trying new activities, or enjoying a welcoming space to be themselves, camp can help students build independence, confidence, and social skills.
Through Kid-to-Camp, the Special Education Foundation provides funding support to help students served by the Special School District of St. Louis County attend a camp of their choice. We’re proud to help make these experiences possible for families who may otherwise have difficulty covering the cost of camp.

Eligibility
Kid-to-Camp consideration is available once per calendar year per student/child. This policy has established funding caps per applicant within designated timeframes to ensure SEF’s equitable distribution of resources and long-term sustainability of the program. If your student or child has not yet applied for Kid-to-Camp in 2026, they are eligible to apply this year. Please read our Kid-to Camp Policy for full details on our criteria and eligibility.
How It Works
1. Find a camp that has open enrollment.
Families can choose a camp that is a good fit for their student. Looking for camp options? Visit the SEF Kid-to-Camp webpage for a list of camp resources. Space is usually limited, and spots fill up quickly, so enroll early.
2. Apply for funding.
Complete the Kid-to-Camp application through SEF. Two letters of recommendation are required - one from the child’s SSD teacher, and the second from anyone who has worked with the child, other than a parent/guardian. Applications are accepted for all academic breaks, as long as funding remains available.
3. SEF reviews the application.
SEF reviews applications to determine eligibility and available funding.
4. Enjoy camp!
Once approved, families can use their Kid-to-Camp funding toward an eligible camp experience. Students can spend their time making friends, learning new skills, trying new activities, and creating memories.
