The Special Education Foundation is excited to announce an exciting new addition to the 3rd Annual Starfish Awards—a Silent Auction that will bring even more fun and community involvement to this inspiring evening of celebration.

New this year, the Silent Auction will be open to everyone to participate in, whether attending the event or cheering on the honorees from afar. Guests and supporters alike will have the opportunity to bid on an incredible variety of items, including local experiences, vacation packages, fine dining opportunities, entertainment, and much more. The auction adds another special element to an evening already dedicated to recognizing individuals who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with disabilities.

Stay tuned as additional details and featured auction items will be announced soon. With something for everyone, the Silent Auction is expected to bring excitement, friendly competition, and additional support for programs benefiting students served by the Special School District.

This year, we are proud to recognize outstanding individuals, including Speech -Language Pathologist Jennifer Corcoran of the Ladue School District and Administrator Lisa Thomas of the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

Their dedication to students has left a lasting and meaningful impact. Through their daily acts of compassion, encouragement, and unwavering support, they exemplify the heart of the Starfish Award. Together with their fellow honorees, they inspire positive change and help build a stronger, more connected community.

Jennifer Corcoran is deeply committed to helping her students succeed, serving each child with compassion, positivity, and an unwavering belief in their potential. She works closely with families and educational teams to support students with complex communication needs, celebrating every milestone and helping students find their voice. Her expertise, dedication, and consistent communication make her a trusted advocate and exceptional speech-language clinician for both students and families.

Lisa Thomas embodies the spirit of the Starfish Award through her compassionate dedication to helping families navigate the often overwhelming special education process. Known as a “Parent Whisperer,” she creates trust and understanding by translating complex information into meaningful guidance, empowering parents to become confident advocates for their children. Through her empathy, patience, and commitment to inclusion, Lisa transforms confusion and frustration into hope, dignity, and support for the families she serves.

The 3rd Annual Starfish Awards will take place on June 11 at The Reverie STL. Join us in celebrating Jennifer, Lisa, and all of this year’s honorees. Guests can look forward to an unforgettable evening filled with inspiration, celebration, entertainment, and stories that highlight the power of making a difference one student at a time.
