As temperatures are beginning to drop, many families in our community face difficult choices between paying for basic necessities and keeping their children warm. For students with disabilities, finding the right winter coat can be even more challenging. Some students need specially sized or adapted coats to accommodate wheelchairs, braces, or medical equipment, making this essential item more complex and costly for families already managing so much.
That’s why the Special Education Foundation, in partnership with the Special School District (SSD), is launching its annual Critical Needs Coat Drive to help students with disabilities stay warm, comfortable, and ready to learn this winter.
A warm coat is more than protection from the cold. It helps students get to school, to fully participate in outdoor activities, and enjoy the winter season with their classmates. For families facing financial hardships, your generosity can ease a difficult burden and help meet a child's basic needs.
This year, we are accepting monetary donations through January 8, 2027. Your gift helps us provide coats in the exact sizes and adaptive styles students need, ensuring each child receives winter gear that fits properly and accommodates their individual needs.
Every Dollar Counts - Donate Today
Your generosity can make a real difference for a child and their family. Every donation helps provide warmth, comfort, and peace of mind to families who need extra support during the coldest months of the year.
Help us make this winter a little warmer for every child. Thank you for standing with the Special Education Foundation and SSD to ensure students with disabilities have the winter protection they need to learn, participate, and feel included.
